State Representative Appointed to House Transportation Committee


State Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) was named to the Illinois House Transportation and Security Committee last week by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin.

“I am grateful for the trust Chief Durkin has placed in me to provide proper verification of vehicle and safety laws on Illinois highways,” Swanson said in a press release. “Over the next few years, we will likely see many important pieces of legislation pass through this committee as autonomous vehicles, alternative fuel vehicles and more artificially intelligent vehicles will change the way Americans move to live, work and play in the great state of Illinois.

“We need to make sure our statutes are lightweight and continually adapt to Illinois’ new ways of traveling.”

The Illinois House Transportation: Vehicles & Safety Committee has traditionally been a testing ground for speed limit changes related to legislation, vehicle safety requirements (for everything from vintage vehicles to motorcycles to commercial trucks ), as well as issues related to more modern needs for legislation. the introduction of semi-autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles and more.

“Whether it’s issues related to biofuels, motorcycle safety or vintage vehicles, I’ve long understood the importance of this committee and can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get to work on these. important issues going forward,” Swanson said.
