New York Red Bulls and center-back of the United States National Team Aaron Long is the subject of interest for clubs in England and France ahead of the January European transfer window closing, according to MLSsoccer.com sources.
Steven Goff of the Washington Post reported that Reading on the league side is about to take a step for the player. According to sources, the Red Bulls have yet to receive any offers for Long.
There will be a resolution as soon as the January transfer window in England and France closes on Monday evening.
Long, 28, was named MLS Defender of the Year in 2018, anchoring RBNY’s backline en route to a Supporters’ Shield title. He has 105 career MLS appearances and is a regular starter with the USMNT under Gregg Berhalter, with 18 caps to date.
RBNY reportedly rejected “several offers” from West Ham for Long in 2019 while MLSsoccer.com also reported that summer that the Red Bulls rejected an offer from a French club.
Long is currently with the USMNT as they prepare to face Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday night.
