Terastals are the latest gadget to be introduced to the Pokemon franchise, but fans would rather see a mechanic from nine years ago make a return in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
Gadgets are to be expected with each new release of Pokemon. From Triple Battles to Dynamaxing, each generation introduces a new combat mechanic, many of which don’t stand the test of time.
There are Pokemon gadgets that instantly won the hearts of countless fans, and there are others that are considered forgettable. The Gen 7 Z-Moves are one of the series’ least-appreciated additions.
But at the other end of the spectrum is Mega Evolutions. A gadget introduced in Gen 6, it was hailed as the greatest battle mechanic in Pokemon history by many fans, but had a very short lifespan in the mainline titles.
Mega Charizard X (and Y) are one of many Mega Evolutions.
Pokemon Fans Call For Mega Evolutions On Terastals
In a post on Reddit by user Early-Abroad-3771, they talked about how they think Mega Evolutions have the biggest impact on the Pokemon franchise compared to any other gadget. And with 11.6,000 upvotes, it’s safe to say a lot of trainers agree.
Early-Abroad went on to explain in detail that they never see fan art made up of other gadgets. They rarely – if ever – see the art created for the newly revealed Z-Moves, Gigantamaxes, or even Terastals.
And a dive into the 900+ comments reveals that many Pokemon fans feel the same way. One user said, “I just want the mega evolution back. It was way cooler and way fairer than Gigantamax, but more op-ed than this new crystallized gimmick.
Others agreed while coming up with their own theories as to why mega evolutions are so popular. One user claimed that it was because Megas had better and more memorable designs than other gadgets. Another claimed it was because Mega Evolving made underutilized Pokémon viable for the first time in their existence.
A large number of users found it a shame that Game Freak did not continue to design new Mega Evolutions for each generation. There are still so many Pokemon that are underutilized or overlooked, and giving them a Mega Evolution might give them the light they need.
But that being said, Mega Evolutions probably won’t be returning to the mainline games anytime soon. However, existing Mega Evolutions live in Pokemon Go and are released one at a time during special events.
