Parking and transportation changes during the Thanksgiving period

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 10, 2022) — Thanksgiving Break is almost in sight! University of Kentucky Transportation Services would like to remind students, staff, and faculty that during the break there will be changes to campus parking and bus service.

Additionally, a home football game is scheduled during the break, so any vehicles that are parked in the regular relocation areas on game day and left on campus during the break will need to be moved prior to departure. Additional details are below.

Changes to campus bus service

On Wednesday, November 23, the blue and white routes and the green route will operate on a modified schedule, ending at 6 p.m. The orange route will operate on its regular schedule.

Campus buses and the Kentucky Wildcab service will not be available Thursday, November 24 through Saturday, November 26.

On Sunday, November 27, the yellow route will have extended hours, from 9 a.m. to midnight.

The campus bus service will resume normal operations on Monday, November 28. Wildcab service will resume on Thursday, December 1.

Parking enforcement changes

Campus car parks will not be checked for parking permits during official university holidays – Thursday November 24 and Friday November 25. However, all other parking regulations will be enforced (ADA spaces, yellow lines, fire lanes, etc.).

Normal parking permit enforcement will resume on Sunday, November 27.

Moving on the day of the football match

The Wildcats still have three home football games, with the third taking place during Thanksgiving Break. Regular vehicle relocation practices are in place for the first two games on Saturday November 12 and Saturday November 19.

However, permit holders who typically park in the moving areas on game day and plan to leave their vehicles on campus over the holidays will be able to move their vehicles earlier than usual for the third and final home game, scheduled for Saturday, November 26. Due to the public holiday, permit holders may travel to permitted areas from 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, but no later than 7 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26..

Failure to move a vehicle in designated areas may result in a ticket or impoundment of the vehicle.

Vehicles must be returned to their authorized parking areas before 5 a.m. on Monday, November 28.

Students and/or staff who regularly park in relocation areas on game day and will be leaving campus by 1pm on Tuesday, November 22 should call UK Transport Services at 859-257-5757 or email mail to obtain special authorization to move their vehicles earlier.

If you have any questions or need more information about the Thanksgiving Holiday changes to parking and transportation, please email Transportation Services or call the Customer Service Center at 859 -257-5757.
