New Jersey officials and transportation advocates say it’s time for federal government to boldly invest in clean transportation

(Fieldsboro, NJ) – Today, New Jersey Assembly member Dr. Herb Conaway and clean energy and transportation advocates urged elected state leaders in Washington to support the federal investments in clean transportation infrastructure. The in-person press conference was held at the Rutgers EcoComplex “Clean Energy Innovation Center” as part of a series of local events coordinated by the Climate Action Campaign.

As the Biden administration and Congress consider broad infrastructure proposals and investments in clean transportation, speakers thanked U.S. Representative Andy Kim (NJ-03) for his climate leadership. They urged him to continue supporting the growth of clean energy and the expansion of the clean vehicle and bus market throughout the budget process this summer to improve public health and create economic opportunities for all New Jerseyans.

“There is an urgent need for Congress to support federal investments in clean energy infrastructure that will improve public health, grow the economy and ensure a more sustainable and resilient future for all New Jersey residents,” said MP Herb Conaway (D7-Burlington). “We thank Representative Andy Kim for his support on these important issues and look forward to continuing to work with him.”

Transportation is the single largest source of climate-damaging carbon pollution in the United States. Modernizing our transportation sector and investing in clean school buses and public transportation are key to tackling climate change, making extreme weather events like hurricanes, hurricanes and heat waves more frequent. and intense.

“The Rutgers EcoComplex fully supports clean vehicle technologies. We believe that clean transportation applications, especially if they use clean energy, can improve the environment, public health, and create economic opportunities for all New Jersey residents, ”said Dr. Guran, Director by Rutgers EcoComplex. “We believe clean transportation is an important part of climate change mitigation efforts. To achieve this, we need clean infrastructure with safeguards in place to phase out light, medium and heavy fossil fuel vehicles, including buses and trucks, to eliminate carbon pollution. We must achieve this at all levels of decision-making. This includes the need for bold federal investments in clean transportation.

Investments in clean transportation and electric buses and vehicles are essential to meet our country’s climate goals, reduce air pollution, improve public health, achieve environmental justice and boost the economy. Significant federal investments can spur the advancement of such programs, leading to cleaner air, lower fuel costs, and more jobs to support families in our communities.

“New Jersey is making the necessary investments to become a national leader in the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) V. Now is the time for our leaders in Washington to take bold action and let the rest of the country know, ”said MP Robert Karabinchak (D18-Middlesex). “I thank our congressional delegation for their leadership and support and I encourage making electric vehicle infrastructure a priority with greater investments to accelerate our transition to a clean energy economy.”

Recent polls have shown that these investments are popular in the 3rd Congressional District of New Jersey. Sixty-five percent of voters in the 3rd arrondissement support investments in electric vehicles and charging stations to reduce pollution and help more Americans buy clean cars.

“Big and bold investments in clean vehicle infrastructure will boost the clean energy economy and provide sustainable, family-friendly jobs in New Jersey,” said Stanley Jaracz, president of the Central Jersey Electric Auto Association. “The expansion of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure could create 1 million manufacturing jobs in the automotive industry. We encourage Representative Andy Kim to continue supporting significant investments in the electric vehicle market. “
