In February, League of Legends fans chose Udyr as the next champion to receive a VGU. And now, Riot has shared a look at Spirit Walker’s early design and gameplay slated for 2022.
Riot developers discussed the advancement of Udyr’s gameplay, art, and narrative design in today’s world blog post, explaining how they will help the obsolete shaman to better modernize. While the developers will retain its stance shift identity and shaman warrior theme, a new “super stance” mechanic may find its way into the Rift.
Stash gameplay designer “Stashu” Chelluck explained that Udyr will maintain four positions with no ultimate, still be a melee champion, and can maximize different positions for a variety of gameplay. But the developers tested a “super stance” that would allow Udyr to redefine his active stance and use a super version of the cooldown ability, seemingly similar to Karma Ultimate. In an experimental video shared by Riot, the super Turtle Stance, for example, appears to explode after a while. Another super stance seems to chain damage to multiple enemies.
Other experimental changes that didn’t make the cut included a super-buff based on maximum position first, allowing Udyr to have two active positions at once, and an ultimate that transformed the champion into an avatar in depending on its position. in.
As for Udyr’s new visuals, concept artist Justin âRiotEarpâ Albers discussed the direction his base model is heading. Players can expect a Primal Freljord Shaman who can feature antlers and long hair with feathers and knickknacks. He will be strong but not a super cut bodybuilder and he will be branded with various tattoos that potentially denote the animals whose spiritual energy he is channeling.
Since it’s still early in Udyr’s VGU design, all of these updates are subject to change before the redesign hits the flaw.
