JOB TITLE: Fixed route bus operators

LOCATION: North Little Rock, AR

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Qualified applicants will be trained and certified to provide safe, reliable, convenient, and cost-effective transit service to valued Rock Region METRO (METRO) riders in central Arkansas. Although all bus operators must have a valid Arkansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), medical examiner’s certificate, and Passenger (P) endorsement, applicants who will need assistance with accreditation will be considered.

Once licensed and certified, full-time operators will receive rigorous training in the safe and timely operation of fixed-route buses. As part of day-to-day operations, this individual will be responsible for driving in a safe, courteous and timely manner while providing customer service in the form of passenger communications, including route schedules and times, fares and processing and transfer instructions. They can also help passengers with special needs, including passengers with disabilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Driving a city bus
  • Requires sitting for long periods of time while driving the bus.
  • Must meet the timing requirements of the particular route
  • Must assist wheelchair passengers by securing the wheelchair in the bus.
  • Provide passengers with general information on routes and timetables.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Experience: Prefer one year of CDL passenger driving experience.
  • Certification: Either in possession of a Class “B” CDL and passenger (P) endorsement, or willing and able to work towards obtaining such license, certification and endorsement.
  • Able and willing to provide safe, reliable and cost effective customer service.

FURTHER INFORMATION:

Full set of benefits; health, dental, vision, life, deferred compensation, paid holidays, paid sick and paid holidays. Starting at $17.43 per hour thereafter, rates are in accordance with a collective agreement.

Opening bonus of up to $5,000 for new fixed-route bus operators.
