Crawford County Automobile Club Hosts Memorial Day Car Show

PALESTINE, Ill. (WTWO / WAWV) – After being canceled last year due to the pandemic, a Memorial Day event returned to Palestine, Illinois on Monday.

The Crawford County Collectibles Car Club held its annual Memorial Day Car Show. This year marked the 40th year of the event, the first having taken place in 1981.

The judges examined cars awarding titles such as “Best of Show”.

“People just like to go out and show their cars and it’s not so much to win a trophy as to show people what they have,” said club president Gene Weger.

Weger noted that club members hope to have at least 150 cars in this year’s show.

“We had people come for a few hours,” he said. “We’ve had quite a few people from Evansville, and they’re just happy to be out.”

The event is used as a fundraiser for a scholarship that the club awards each year to a Crawford County student entering the automotive industry.
