COPS is a national organization that hopes to support survivors of police officers who have died in the line of duty, approximately 140-160 law enforcement professionals each year. COPS was organized in 1984 with 110 individual members. Today, the COPS has more than 60,000 survivors. Survivors include spouses, children, parents, siblings, relatives and co-workers of officers who died in the line of duty under federal government criteria. COPS is governed by a National Council of Law Enforcement Survivors. All programs and services are administered from the national office in Camdenton, Mo. COPS has over 50 chapters nationwide that work with survivors at the local level.
