Brown Hired as New Sun Prairie Transportation Coordinator | New


The City of Sun Prairie recently announced that Alexander Brown has been hired as the new Transportation Coordinator, who will be based in the city’s engineering department.

The main responsibilities of the position are to provide transport planning support to the city and its various commissions and committees, to propose transport specific recommendations on new development proposals and to lead engagement efforts related to the projects. transportation, public transit and active transportation in the city.

Brown is the first person to fill this role.

The city’s former transportation planner / planner, Philip Gritzmacher Jr., switched in June from his role in Sun Prairie to a similar role in Madison.

After his transition, the role was reassessed to better meet the community’s transportation and transit needs.

The original post had elements of transport planning, but no specific objective.

After reassessment, it was decided that the role should be split into two full-time positions of Transport Planner and Coordinator.

On Tuesday, July 20, Sun Prairie City Council approved a resolution to create the position of Transportation Coordinator.

Brown comes to the city with a solid background in transportation and transit planning.

In 2017, he was a planner for the North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (NCWRPC) where he prepared and facilitated two active transportation plans: the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan for North Central Wisconsin and Langlade County Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

After working as a planner for the NCWRPC, he became the Associate Planner / Metropolitan Planning Organization (DFO) Coordinator for the City of Janesville and had the opportunity to complete a Federal Compliant Long Range Transportation Plan and covering all modes of transport.

Alexander graduated from UW-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies and political science as well as a master’s of science in urban and regional planning.

Brown said he was excited to move Sun Prairie and its transportation goals forward.

“My goal is to continue the city’s momentum by laying the foundation for continuous and extensive transit service to the city, allowing more people to travel between Sun Prairie and Madison by others. means than a car, ”Brown said.

While Alexander will serve in a variety of roles, he will play a major role in the work of the Pedestrian Safety Task Force and advance safety for the community of Sun Prairie.
