FC Nurnberg sporting director Dieter Hecking provides an update on the loaned player from Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich had several first-team starts last season. They parted ways with Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho when their loan deals ended. Meanwhile, many young players who trained with the first team have been loaned out to continue their development.
Christian Fruchtl was one of those young players who left Bayern temporarily. The young German goalkeeper has been training with the first team since the retirement of Tom Starke. He has yet to make his first-team debut since Neuer manual and Sven Ulreich were the first and second choice goalies, respectively.
At the beginning of last summer, Alexandre nubel arrived in Bavaria from Schalke with a free transfer. Ulreich’s future was uncertain, but he couldn’t walk away from the club until the final weeks of the transfer window. Fruchtl decided to take another step forward in his development and joined FC Nurnberg on a one-season loan at the start of the window.
Things didn’t go well for Fruchtl at Nurnberg as he warmed up the bench as a second-choice keeper. Talk to Bild this week, Nurnberg sporting director Dieter Hecking hinted that Fruchtl would remain the second-choice goalkeeper for the remainder of the campaign.
“We have to look at ourselves first. Christian Früchtl played a major role in getting Christian Mathenia back to good shape.
“It is certainly not an easy situation for him at the moment as the goalkeeper position is seldom rotated. If he ever has to replace Mathenia, I have no worries about him. I am still watching him. training and I see that he has taken a new step with us.
In such a scenario, Die Roten is expected to seek to terminate Fruchtl’s loan in January. They should look for a club where he will have consistent playing time. The young goalkeeper is highly rated in Bavaria, but he will need experience at the senior level to develop various aspects of his game.
Die Roten have been hit and missed on loan periods for young players. The most disappointing loan move in recent seasons has been Renato Sanches joining Swansea City. The Portuguese midfielder had a scorching time in the Premier League, and his confidence was shattered when he returned to Bavaria the following season.
Lately, the German Champions won gold with Adrien Feinmoved to Hamburg. The German midfielder has become an important part of the squad and has played regularly throughout the last season. He got a new contract at Bayern in January, but the German left for PSV Eindhoven on a loan with an option to buy during the deadline.

A bad loan period can negatively impact a young player’s confidence. Fruchtl is currently in a difficult position. He will be better served by training with the first team rather than warming up the bench in Nuremberg. Its immediate future should be a priority for Die Roten when the window opens this week.
